The Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Union Minister for Oil and Mineral Resources, Union Minister Pankaj Singh Puri today launched the revolutionary automotive fuel, ETHANOL 100. ETHANOL 100 is available at IndianOil retail outlet M/s Irwin Road Service Station in New Delhi.

Customers can now purchase ETHANOL 100 from select 183 retail outlets across five states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh as well as New Delhi and Tamil Nadu.

The launch ceremony was attended by the Secretary of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoP&NG), Mr. Pankaj Singh Jain, Chairman, Senior Officials of MoP&NG and Functional Directors of IndianOil.

Launching ETHANOL 100, Hardeep said, “The vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister to turn Annadatas into Urjadatas inspired us to launch ETHANOL 100. This reflects the government’s commitment to reduce import dependency, conserve foreign exchange, and boost the agriculture sector.”

Since the Prime Minister’s announcement of E20 (20 percent ethanol blended fuel) back in 2023, E20 availability has grown to 12,000 outlet in less than a year. Now, with the launch of the new ETHANOL 100 at 183 IndianOil outlets, we are almost on target to achieve the 20 percent ethanol blending target by 2025-26,” he added.

Over the past 10 years, these ethanol blending efforts have increased farmer incomes, boosted rural employment, decreased CO2 emissions by 1.75 lakh trees, and saved Rs 85,000 crores in foreign exchange.

Mr. Jain commented on the initiative saying, “This initiative highlights a major shift towards sustainable technologies, encouraging manufacturers to put money into ethanol based vehicles. The shift from high volume vehicles to alternative vehicles is a sign of our commitment. Furthermore, the steady supply of ethanol backed by our strong ethanol industry addresses concerns over the availability of ethanol. This also confirms our determination to decarbonize. I would like to thank IndianOil for leading this effort. Their support shows that ethanol and flex are here to stay.”

Speaking at the event, President, IndianOil, M. M. Vaidya said that India is one of the few countries in the world where ETHANOL100 fuel is available. “This is a milestone in India’s journey towards sustainable development and clean mobility,” he said. “We are now ready to take advantage of the abundant supply of ethanol.”

ETHANOL100 is a cleaner and more environmentally friendly alternative to gasoline. It has lower greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions, helping to combat climate change and improve air quality across our communities.

ETHANOL100’s high octane rating (100-105) makes it an ideal fuel for high performance engines, increasing efficiency and power while reducing environmental impact.

The versatility of ETHANOL 100 is also evident in its use in a wide range of vehicles, such as flex-fuel vehicle (FFV), which can run on either gasoline, ethanol or a combination of the two. This shows how practical ETHANOL 100 can be and that it has the potential to be a mainstream fuel with the proper infrastructure in place.
